Reprinted historic map of the Odenwald region in southern Hesse from the book "Historie und Stammtafeln des hochgräflichen Hauses Erbach" by Daniel Schneider. Originally published 1736 by „Stocks sel. Erben und Schilling“ in Frankfurt am Main.

The map shows the villages, towns and rivers in the area ruled by House Erbach in great detail, also including the most important places in the surrounding territories. Since this is a reworked reproduction of a period map, which is almost 300 years old, the labels in the map mostly display older variants of settlement names. There are even some villages shown that were abandoned more than 200 years ago!

This map was made between 1700 and 1736 by the engraver Peter Fehr (1681 – 1740) from Frankfurt. The original was sized 46 x 33 cm². Its content is primarily based on the first known map of Erbach county made by Bernhard Cantzler and first published in 1623. In the course of the 17th century, this map was copied, modified and its fringe zones expanded numerous times, mostly by Dutch publishers. Fehr's version of the map represents its ultimate evolutionary step. He expanded the covered area in the east for a last time and added the borders of Erbach county and the fiefdom of Breuberg as additional detail.

This map is available in 4 variants, all of which are A1 (59.4 x 84.1 cm) in size:

  • Paper print, rolled (300 dpi)
  • Paper print, folded (300 dpi)
  • Textile print
  • Canvas print

We recommend the rolled paper print or the artistic canvas print for customers who want to mount the map on a wall. If the map is to be stored in a bookshelf, we recommend the robust (polyester fabric) textile print or the folded map.

This map can also be printed on a framed canvas or aluminium plate. If interested please contact us using kontakt@sardisverlag.de.
